Touring Hacks with Pros: How to carry your skis

How to carry skis

When ascending during a ski tour, you can encounter tricky sections where it is better to take off your touring skis and carry them on your back. When doing so, it is important to securely fasten them to your backpack so that they do not slip. A tried-and-tested way of doing this is to attach the skis to the left and right sides (touring backpacks usually have special straps for doing this) and then connect the tips of the two skis together with a ski strap, for example. This securely fastens the skis to the backpack so they don’t get in your way as you continue your ascent. Make sure you don’t fasten the skis too low down so they hinder you when walking or too far up.
